I follow a BIO-PSYCHO-SOCIAL approach. I believe in empowering the individual to accept responsibility and to take control of their lives. I focus on teaching the cycle of change and getting patients to understand this. I do not enable patients into believing that medication is the main aspect of their treatment plan.
My therapy follows a Cognitive-Behavioral Model with some facets of Brief Psycho-dynamic Psychotherapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
After my community service I worked and lived in the United Kingdom for 2 years. It was here that my interest in psychiatry began. I worked mainly in General Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry. I worked in various settings which included Psychiatric Intensive Care Units, Respite Units and a Memory Clinic.
I returned to South Africa in order to pursue further training in psychiatry. My interests are Bipolar Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury and Medicine and the Law. I have also completed a certificate course in Medicine and the Law from UNISA in 2004 and I intend on studying towards a law degree. My Practice
